I finished!

5 skeins of 2-ply yarn.

Next: Figure out how many yards I have.

Can I really knit something with it?

I taught myself to knit with an encyclopedia (it had diagrams), a pair of chopsticks and kitchen string. It has been an adventure ever since then.
